I have to have to … rather MUST … post this rightaway.

I am in my bed at the mo. Just woke up. Saturday morning. And Pati came into the room with Parul’s Bringing up Vasu: That first year.

Omg, yes.

Why am I hyperventilating??? Well, because I had mentioned the book to him in passing a while back. I had told him that I love Parul’s blog and that I’d like to read her book but never got around to buying it because of various stuff going on at the mo; his family being here et al.

And he remembered that …

And he surprized me with it …

Omgomgomg, how lovely!!!!! :))))

Thanks Parul!! :D In some indirect way. I owe you a review. :)

One of the biggest disadvantages of not getting to blog regularly is that I don’t get to record any moments that I might look back at in a few year’s time and giggle at. One such moment passed just recently … two weeks ago in fact. I had to write a Uni entrance exam (I have enrolled myself in a couple of classes, I told ya) that I wasn’t much worried about. P, however, urged me to take it seriously and write at least one practice test before sitting for the exam. Only if I ever listened. ;p

The night before the exam morning, P asked me, “Did you manage to do any practice tests?”

“Nope,” I replied quietly, looking at the floor to escape his eyes since I felt bad for not having listened to him.

“Good”, he smirked and continued, “achha hai kal subaah practice ho jaayegi“.

:p :p

hehe I still can’t stop giggling.

Thankfully, I did well in the ‘practice’ test next morning and got admitted into the courses I wanted or else I’d forever hold me guilty for not having listened to him. :D

Another disadvantage of not getting to blog regularly is that things change at such a fast pace and I don’t get to update my journal in a timely fashion. As you know, we are building a house. Last I mentioned the house was post the Independence day weekend. They had started laying the foundation for the house at that time. Now it has been two weeks since that day and LOTS has changed.

This is how the lot/house looked like on the weekend of Aug 15, 2009 – Aug 16, 2009 … never mind P, he is a clown and some more:

A week later, things changed:

Yeah, that’s me. :p Welcoming you into our future humble abode. Time flies eh??? Imagine what happened within another week … before you can imagine, I’d post some photos:

IMG_3511

As you can imagine, I am pretty excited about how this is all turning out. Nothing like having a place you can call your own. It might not be the biggest building there is … but it is something that’s yours. I really can’t wait to see the final product, and at the rate they’re going at, I hope to see it close to my birthday. :) This is a very exciting time for both me and P and I constantly keep thinking of the best wishes that you guys sent our way when I told you that we might not get the lot to build the house. Thank you so very much for thinking of us and blessing us with the best. :) I have to share the developments of this beautiful dream with you because I do feel strongly that if it weren’t for your prayers, we might not even be building our home. Thanks once again!!! :)

You know how I wrote a post a couple of days ago complaining about P not taking decent pix when I was on stage for India Fest (Independence Day celebrations) … well, a friend was kind enough to forward a pic taken by a professional photographer … is this any better? I dont know. :| you tell.

1

Belated ji … but … nonetheless. :)

How’d you celebrate yours? We had celebrations here in a Convention Centre. Unlike last year when they had Mika Singh’s performance lined up for the evening, they didn’t invite any big names for the event this year; hence, the crowd wasn’t all that great. There were a few patriots, however, like my husband who woke up early to go see the Indian flag being hoisted whilst singing his national anthem. ;) I slept in of course. :p At the event itself, I was the co-MC for a pageant for little kids of ages 5-12. Man, MCing was as much fun as I expected it to be but working with kids was what pleased me the most! Aww they were all such sweet little angels. Cute as heck. Makes me wanna make one so I can keep him/her for myself forevaaaa muhahahaa :D. Oh well, at least for a few years before he/she has had enough of our nest that me and P hope to lovingly build together.

Talking about nest, construction of our house begun on August 14th. :) They dug up the land. We went to look at it today. P went and took the mud in his hand and KISSED IT! Go figure. Uck Ugh YUCK! :D But the dude’s gotta have a reason to be doing it … so I walked into the mud too and dirtied my hands with it too. :D We did take pictures. I’ll see if I can upload them. I am excited about the house coming together. We really don’t have much to do but wait with fingers crossed and watch the whole building process unfold. We have chosen the colors for the floors and the cabinets etc. but walls, furnishings et al would need to be done after the house is handed over to us. There’s sooo much work to be done once we do get the house but, hopefully, it will be fun and well worth the effort. :)

Other than that, I got an offer to work in a Pakistani drama as one of the lead actresses. haha Another one of those ‘go figure’ situations! I am meeting with the director et al tomorrow. It’s meant to be a short term project of only about a couple of months. Let’s see if it works out. Again, like radio, I didn’t go looking for this op either. It just happened to come to me. Also, like radio, I am not sure if I should take it up. First, I don’t even know the first alphabet of Acting! Second, repeat First! :D I’ll make a total mockery of myself and waste their time if I do agree. The director, however, says that making his actors act is his job. All we gotta do is show up. Mmmmmm hmmmmmm. What do you think? Don’t I need to have some instruction in acting to be able to ‘act’ on camera? I don’t think I can act at all!!!!! Not even to save my life. But then if Aishwarya Rai is managing it, I guess I can too. ;p Jokes. I think I am to acting as Sunny Deol is to dancing. But let’s see how it goes tomorrow. Maybe the casting director won’t like my look for the role they’re looking for. I am supposed to be a divorced woman I think who is still young but refuses to remarry. Mmmm hmmmmmm again. So unlike me. It’d be a challenge. Let’s see. Pliss tell me what you think?

Okie enough rambling from my quarters, hope all you’s doing well and better. I miss you!!! I am almost depressed for not getting to blog often. I’ll be back! Sooner than later!! With lots more to update on … for now, some pics to share:

1. First couple are from the Independence Day celebrations. That would be me on the stage and obviously, it was P on the camera. He didn’t think taking a pic from up front would be a good idea for some reason :<

IMG_3461

IMG_3453

2. It was only after we got home that P realized that he should’ve taken better pictures. He asked me to pose in our dimly lit hallway so he could take a picture. Obviously, it couldn’t possibly turn out good … but, nonetheless, I am visible in it at least even if exposure (light) gave us dhokha:

IMG_4146

3. Anddd did you read up in this post that I kissed the soil of the land that our house is to be built in? Now you can see for yourself that I did not lie. :p But hey, I swear my lips did NOT touch that!!! It’s just a pose for the photo op. Uh huh uh huh!! :))))

IMG_3481

More later, luvers. I will answer your comments ESPECIALLY on that one post … you know what I am talking about. :) In due time. Thanks for bearing me with such patience and love. Y’all rockkkkkk!!! Muaaaaaaahz. The drama queen signs off now. Adios. I sleep. You sleep. We all sleep now. :D

:) The header pic (no longer there anymore of course hehehe) is from the circus we went to on Thursday night. The full version of the header pic is as below … click on it for the larger version:

Another pic from the circus:

And then, of course, the Kailash Kher night. I do have a couple of pics and a video. Video is not of the best quality and you’re better off watching the originals on youtube. ;) Even then I’d try to upload it if I ever get interested to do so. For now, a few pics from the concert … of Kailash Kher and of me in a saaaaariiiii :D … here:

IMG_3425

IMG_3431

The photo above was taken when the Kailasa band had said their exit-goodbyes. The following picture was taken when we were leaving the concert hall to go to the party we weren’t invited to … ;) of course, I don’t have pics from the party because it wouldn’t be too nice of me to be clicking pictures of someone’s private party and bringing them home or posting them here. :)

Those of you who don’t know RDB, pliss have a look at the following videos … maybe that’d do the trick? …

Or

Or one of their most famous ‘Sadi Gali’ sung by Lehmber Hussainpuri which you CANNOT resist dancing to:

My ears are still ringing. It’s 2:01 AM. We just got home a few minutes back. A smashing Friday evening. First, it was Kailash Kher’s concert that I did mention in yesterday’s post. It was at 7 PM. I went there dressed in a sari :) which I’d post a pic of tomorrow. I shot a brief video of the concert as well. I’d try and upload that as well tomorrow or the day after or the day after that. ;) Rite now, I am tired and full of myself at the same time. Tired because I danced the night away. After Kailash Kher’s concert ended around 10 PM, a friend invited me and P to a pre-wedding sangeet he was going to. We weren’t sure of ‘crashing’ a party of someone we dont even know but then friend dropped the word ‘RDB’ in his invitation. RDB? Performing close to my house? No way! Of course, I had to go! :)

It was a Pakistani wedding; so, obviously, beauty was in abundance. Gorgeous women, really! They know how to dress and especially their make up is flawless!! Beautifully dressed, all of them. It was a party of the rich though and it showed. Let me be more specific. It was a party of RICH Pakistani families. Parking Lot seemed a dealership for Mercs, Beemers and Lexuses. :/ The hall was done up real nicely. RDB was flown in all the way from New Delhi for the party. Everyone was in great spirits. It was a great atmosphere!! :) Food was shoddy though but there is only so much uninvited guests should complain about rite? ;p Our friend did introduce us to the host of the party who, to give him full credit, was amazingly welcoming. He took us to the dinner room to offer us food and then took us to the dance floor as well. :) How kind!

And once Roopie’s on the dance floor, there’s no stopping!!! :) And that too with Bhangra music … live Dhol … RDB on mike … is there any stopping? Heckkkkk nooooo! So I danced, danced and danced some more until I sweat so much that I couldn’t see through my eyes, my lungs were struggling to get enough oxygen, my feet and legs almost underwent some yoga-ish contortion to hit me in the head … but it was SOOOOO worth it! Cuz when we were leaving two really well-dressed ladies came up to me to tell me that I was one of the best dancers they’ve ever seen and I was the best on the dance floor tonight. That literally bloated me up, I swear. Reason being that I was thinking that there were quite a few good dancers on the floor tonight. Normally, there are not … but in this party, there were!!! All the young kids moved really well to the music. I was impressed. But those ladies thought I was better than the kids I was impressed with. It was fabulous to say the least. I am still bloated, gloated, the works ;p from their compliment. So feet can hurt, breath can run out, sweat can make skin sticky … Roopie no care … Roopie shall dance saala!!!! :))))

ps: I’ll get to answering comments on previous posts soon. I promise. I’m just getting life back in order. I have a choice to stay away completely but I do want to write as briefly as I can about my everyday mundane existence … I will get to the ‘blogging’ practices soon. Pakka!! Sorry for the inconvenience, ji. :( Ok? Thank you. Come again.

It was hot in Calgary today. For a change. ;) We had a family friend get together over BBQ. A full afternoon of sun, splendid food, friends and did I mention splendid food ;). Fabulous.

I forgot to take pics earlier but it’s raining now. Everyone but me and P went inside. I’m sitting in the shaded part of the patio enjoying the gorgeous breeze and ocassional spray of rainwater. There ain’t a place more beautiful than here in summer time. It’s soo green and not too hot.

Yeah, it’s alright to be back home. Plus, of course, I don’t have to either cook or clean ;). Ooh sun’s out. Lemme take some pics:

Hiii I is back!!!!

The weekend was in Dallas. It was an impulsive decision that I took on Thursday when I heard of the concert. Before you raise your hopes and club me in the suave (?!) group of head rockers, it was a Punju concert. Pliss don’t expect more from me. I don’t go much beyond Punjabi music. :D There’s far too much in just that domain to leave me time to explore someplace else. It was a concert with Geeta Zaildar, Amrinder Gill (awww so cuuute) and Miss Pooja (Pati’s fave) and, boy, it surely was worth the 3-4 hour drive!! :)

We stayed over at a motel – a cheap motel ;p. Concert was on Saturday night and we got to the motel around midnight after the concert. Both of us were hungry; so crashed a nearby Denny’s and ate Mozzarella cheese sticks for 6 bucks!!! Dang! 6 dollars for 6 cheese sticks in Texas? That’s blasphemy!!!! But choice-less that we were, we happily paid and went home with a cheezy ‘tomach ;).

On Sunday morning, when we did manage to crawl out of bed, we met friends … and what lovely friends. It was mother’s day … a nice cool day … we hooked up with Anamika and family :). Her family – comprising of her, her lovely husband, her darlin’ parents and her gorgeous two little girls – treated us (me and P) to a scrumptious Thai lunch!!! It was awesome chatting with them and relishing the delicious food. :) I taught her girls a game or two to keep themselves busy with and fed her younger one brownies whilst she devoured them before I could pick more up with a spoon. It was a sight to be seen!!! I still can’t stop laughing thinking of how fast she’d swallow the brownie piece that I’d feed her before I could even return the spoon back to the plate for more. P often calls me ‘cookie monster’ cuz I do something similar with cookies in my sight but she truly and truly won the title of ‘brownie monster’. Lovely kid! :) A pure delight, all of them. :) It was like meeting with my own family: people I’ve known forever. Thanks for your time, A. It was such a pleasure and an honor to meet all of you. :)

After lunch, me and P said our goodbyes to A and family and drove to our other friends’ house. They were really sweet as well. Both of them welcomed us dearly into their home, offered us tea and snacks which we nimbled on considering we were soooooooo full … and had a great conversation for 2-3 hours. We left Dallas around 4 and reached Houston by dinner time.

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend. Concert was definitely worth it! Both of us enjoyed the VIP treatment meted out to us owing to my mini-celebrity status … haha nah, one of the three organizers of the show was kind enough to offer us free tickets for two very good seats. Well, he better. We drove all the way there after all. hehe And then meeting friends … especially people who we can get along with and do enjoy spending time with … it couldn’t have been better! I truly feel refreshed! :) It was a good weekend.

Having said that, Monday is so-so. Poocho kiyun? I got myself a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses on Saturday morning before we left. They cost me well over 100 dollars. I bought them impulsively. They were the second pair I looked at. P didn’t stop me either. He never stops me from anything which is good but in situations as such, it can be bad. :( Hua yeh ke I wore this pair on our drive to Dallas … and a few minutes into the drive, my ear started hurting. This pair was too tight on me. It just didn’t fit right. So, today I went back to return/exchange them and I was told in return that there is a no-exchange policy on sunglasses which they’d never told me before. :( Now I am stuck with these. They’ve tried to fix ‘em but I don’t know if I want them anymore. I want my money back dammit.

Moral of the story: Whilst impulsiveness can result in spontaneous fun most of the time, there are times when it can make you suffer. Prescription/sun glasses and shoes are two things that you should keep impulsiveness at bay at all costs while shopping for!!!!!! :( Well, lesson learned and I am a proud owner of Ralph Lauren sunglasses: my first branded purchase (oh I so don’t want them) :(.

Before I leave you today and go to sleep cuz I AM really really tired from waking up at 5:30 AM yet again, I’d share a video with you that I took at the concert. I should’ve used my brain earlier and recorded bits of concert when it was in full swing. Instead, I got some dead-ends of it … just before they were about to exit the stage … Geeta Zaildar and Miss Pooja:

Tuhanu saariyaan nu Vaisakhi di lakh lakh vadhaai. :)

Now that we’ve established that Roo is an expert chef (hehe), let’s extend Roo’s portfolio by adding the role of an interior decorator to it too. The walls over here at R & P household had been standing bare for the past year since we’ve moved in. Other aspects of life took precedence as we built up a home together like getting all the electronics in order. Both of us love our gadgets; so obviously, they had to be a priority ;). Howeva, now that they’re all sorted, we found some residual time and brainpower to get our humblest of humble abodes all dolled up.

Our first thought was to fill it up with all the possible greenery that we could but my allergies won’t allow that. Next best thing was to adorn the walls with various knicks and knacks. With what though? Both me and P are not fans of impersonal paintings we can buy from any arts and crafts store. We wanted to make our space as personal as we could. Putting up family pictures everywhere is not our idea of personalizing either. So, we did what any other person with limited creativity would do. We dug into what both of us do best (best is a relative term hehe). P paints; I am a wannabe-photographer … what do you call them? oh yes, amateur photographer ;p. So we took 7 of his paintings and 12 of my photographs and framed ‘em and displayed them all around the house! :D

And whoa! What a change. Roo is happy. We have an entire hallway filled with P’s paintings now. Looks like an art gallery. It’s brilliant! :) And my pictures are undoubtedly fantastic of course hehe joking. I would like to take pictures of the pictures that are hung on the walls to show you but that’d really be redundant and boring. So instead, I welcome you to visit when you can :p … don’t forget to bring some cash donation (as in museums) hehe. Useless gifts, debit cards and credit cards NOT accepted. lol

How is that for self-promotion? :p

This leads me to my next questions. Do we live real life to blog about it? Or do we blog about real life to merely commemorate our life? These questions are a result of Soliloquie’s brilliant post on the disease of blogOmania. :) She writes:

You know that you are suffering from blogOmania or a severe case of blog addiction when

(then she lists many howlarious reasons … and one of them is:)

- on the form where they ask your spouse’s name, you fill in as ‘the other half’, ‘Missus’, ‘Pati’.

Her reason cracked me up cuz I HAVE filled a form where I put P’s name as Pati!!! haha But that’s cuz I call him Pati in real life and it was much before I’d started this blog that I’d done that goof-up on the form.

But her post sure made me think. Do I suffer from blogOmania? I wouldn’t like to think so .. cuz, dude, that’d be terribly sad if I did! :! Yes, there have been times when incidents happen when I think that I’ve gotta blog about this … but I don’t ‘create’ incidents to blog, y’kno what I mean. Despite that though, I have no lines of distinction between my real and my blog life. For example, I call P ‘pati’ in real life and I call him ‘pati’ on blog too. Does that mean I include blog life into my real life and make it a part of my real life more than I should? Am I confusing you? ;p

I write about my life as real as I can. Everything that I know about me is here on the blog. Kind of like take it or leave it. I put myself out here … without any holding backs … or fear of judgment … just as I do with my real life … This ‘virtual’ life is as real for me as my real life is. If something happens in blogworld that’s worth a mention in real life, I openly do that … and my real life is all over my blog to witness. It’s really a blend so perfect of the two that I can’t tell them separate …

My question is … do I take blog life too seriously by blending it with real life to the extent I do? Nothing too serious though … just a random question that gripped me. Cuz I think that I take blog life too lightly by not creating rigid distinctions to keep it separate from who I am in real life. But perhaps I’ve had it all wrong all this time … :p. You can help.

Also, thanks to you guys’ my ;p encouragement, P extended his 55er into a full-length short story!!!! :) I will be posting it tomorrow!! So watch this space for a budding talent! :D
